from rough cut to final video. What needs to be done.

GROUP 53 Music Video 2009 ROUGHCUT from SATMEDIASTUDIES on Vimeo.

Our rough cut is very simple compared to our actual final idea for the music video. however we have brought together all the band footage that we need for our final video. we still have the following to do before the final deadline:
  • Story based/narrative filming
  • final editing of video
  • production logo

Rough Cut screen grab

Here is a screen grab of part of our rough cut in editing in final cut. our rough cut consists of the footage of the band performing. we have used this as our rough cut only as our final idea is to consist of a narrotive section in which it tell a story, the band footage will appear frequently throughout the video.

Roughcut Evaluation

We have uploaded our footage and we are currently editing it. we are pleased with what we have done, but there are still a few creases to be ironed out, eg editing of effects and colouration, maybe a few off cuts added. due to bad weather we are unable to film the rest, we are planning to shoot again tomorrow and add in before the deadline. we are ensuring that we wear the same outfit in order to keep the video professional, and we hope to use jodi in our shots to show in our roughcut the infusion of band and narrative.

Filming Stage 1- feedback

unfortunately we didnt have the appropriate funds to use the grafton car park, but luckily we were able to use one adjacent to it. we wanted to use a background which was reflectory of the song, and garages and autumn trees gave a wintery feel and the clothes we used tried to incorporate the genre of our video. the representation of the guitar and singer with the stands ensured we were following typical conventions of music videos, and we included band shots, close ups, low angles and stills. we are now back in the classroom and so far we are pleased with the performance as most of it is in sync and works well. there is editing to do which we are now in the process of doing. the band performance will be embedded into the narrative to show the bands interaction with the story. however there is still more filming to be done, as we were unable to use jodi for our narrative. this will be shot in the coming week and we hope to go to burleigh street, castle hill and the college grounds.

this is a shot from google map of the area where we filmed.

Filming Stage 1

today we gathered our equipment and set out to film our bands performance. unfortunately the cervical cancer jabs are taking place in the main hall and for privacy reasons we were unable to walk through to film. given this, we had nowere else to film. so we have decided to come back into the classroom, and plan where to film. thanks to stu we are able to use a guitar for our filming, and we have deciced our location to be the car park adjacent to the grafton. there is alot of graffiti work which would appeal to teenagers as its rebellious and reflects a stereotype given to them by society. however in the video we want to percieve it as an art rather than a crime. the high up view will give a view of buildings in the background, and will not take away focus from the band. we will film multiple shots of the song and this will give us a vast catalogue of shots to include in our final piece. heere is a screen shot of where we will be filming.

more ideas

as jodi was producing a storyboard, in which we have drawn the shots we want in our video, we came up with another idea. to keep the theme of the band being close to the girl in the narrative, we had the idea of the band being behind the shower curtain as she exits the bathroom. using this shot we give the viewer a clear image that the girl is oblivious to the singer being around her. this shot will use a longshot as well as a few close ups.
